NIGERIA: FCTA Cautions Event Centres, Hotels Against Hosting Illegal Political Groups
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has issued a stern warning to owners of event centres, hotels, and other public facilities in Abuja against allowing illegal organisations or unrecognised political groups to use their premises.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka, the administration said any violation would attract severe sanctions, including revocation of title documents.
The FCTA emphasised that land allocations in the Federal Capital Territory are strictly for lawful purposes. It warned that facilities used for gatherings capable of disrupting peace and security would face revocation of their titles.
The directive is part of broader measures to strengthen security and maintain order in the nation’s capital, especially as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The administration urged facility owners to verify the legality of any organisation seeking to use their venues and ensure they deal only with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)-recognised leadership of political parties.
“Failure to comply with this directive will result in the revocation of the title documents for such properties,” the stat
ement warned.
