The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has blamed Governor Seyi Makinde for the recent rise in kidnappings, killings and other violent crimes across the state.
The opposition party accused the governor of paying lip service to security issues and failing to build an effective security architecture despite growing concerns over attacks in parts of the state.
The criticism was contained in a statement issued on Friday in Ibadan by the Oyo APC Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare.
The party’s reaction follows the recent abduction of teachers and students from schools in Oriire Local Government Area, as well as Governor Makinde’s renewed call for the creation of state police.
“We have said on several occasions that window dressing and populism cannot help in the building and sustaining security architecture,” the APC said.
The party alleged that the Makinde administration sidelined critical stakeholders in joint security operations and failed to properly support the Oyo Amotekun Corps.
“No good salary, no welfare package, no insurance or retirement plans while most of them are deployed to wrong places where they serve the interest of those in power and their friends only,” the statement added.
The APC also accused the governor of inconsistency over the issue of state police, claiming Makinde previously described the proposal as a waste of time.
“Regrettably, Makinde now wants to shift the blame on the Presidency even he has never been denied the monthly payment of Security Votes,” the party stated.
The opposition party further alleged that the state government spent almost ₦8 billion on surveillance aircraft without visible impact on security operations.
“He paid almost N8billions for the procurement of surveillance aircrafts but nothing has been seen since July, 2025 while bandits and other criminal elements torment residents of the state,” the APC said.
The party urged the governor to intensify efforts toward rescuing abducted victims and addressing worsening
insecurity in the state.
