NIGERIA: Aisha Yesufu Rejects “Quit” Narrative, Insists She Fought Till The End In NDC Senatorial Primary
- By Onoja Baba
- Activist and politician Aisha Yesufu has strongly criticised media headlines that described her acceptance of the outcome of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial primary as a “quit” or “step down,” describing the reports as factually incorrect and misleading.
- In a strongly worded statement on Saturday, Yesufu clarified that she contested the primary to its conclusion and did not withdraw from the race. She said the process was flawed and procedurally compromised, but she chose to accept the outcome in the interest of party unity and the larger national project.
- “I did not step down. I fought till the end,” she stated emphatically.
- Yesufu noted that the 2027 presidential election remains the most important contest in the current electoral cycle. She said her energy is now fully directed towards ensuring that the best candidate emerges on that ballot.
- She called on all media platforms that carried the erroneous headlines to issue immediate corrections, stressing that posterity is watching how her political journey is documented.
- Aisha Yesufu had earlier declared interest in the FCT senatorial seat under the NDC after leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
