NIGERIA: Oyo Police Debunk Viral Claims Of Released Abducted Schoolchildren, Teachers

The Oyo State Police Command has strongly debunked viral messages circulating on social media platforms claiming that the pupils and teachers abducted from Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area have been released by their captors.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade the police described the reports as false misleading and entirely unsubstantiated warning residents to disregard them completely and rely only on official information from authorised government agencies.
The command emphasised that as of the time of the statement there has been no such development and intensive coordinated rescue operations remain ongoing. Security operatives are working tirelessly with all available human and operational resources to ensure the safe rescue and unharmed reunification of the victims with their families as well as the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.
The abduction took place on May 15 2026 when over forty school children and their teachers were seized during a coordinated attack on Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota Community High School in Ahoro-Esienle and L A Primary School in the area.
The police cautioned individuals and groups against spreading false information unverified reports and sensational narratives that could cause unnecessary panic heighten public anxiety undermine ongoing security efforts and threaten public peace.
While appreciating public concern the command urged citizens to remain calm vigilant and supportive of the security operations. It promised to continue providing timely and accurate updates as developments unfold.
