NIGERIA: EFCC Arraigns UNIBEN Staff Over Alleged N3.2 Million Salary Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a staff member of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Segun Bode Adedeji, before the Edo State High Court over an alleged N3.2 million fraud.
Adedeji was arraigned by the Benin Zonal Directorate of the EFCC before Justice E. G. Adekanmbi on a four-count charge bordering on fraudulent practices involving N3,285,396.
According to the anti-graft agency, the defendant was brought before the court following intelligence gathered by operatives of the Commission
which allegedly revealed that while employed by the University of Benin, he was simultaneously receiving salaries from the National Orthopedic Hospital, Benin City.
The EFCC alleged that Adedeji drew salaries from both institutions at the same time, contrary to public service regulations.
The Commission stated that its investigation uncovered the alleged double salary payments, leading to his prosecution on charges of fraudulent conduct.
The matter was subsequently brought before the Edo State High Court, where the defendant was formally arraigned on the charges.The case has been adjourned for further proceedings.The EFCC reiterated its commitment to tackling corruption and fraudulent practices within public institutions and urged citizens to support efforts aimed at promoting accountability and transparency in the public sector.
