A Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday granted bail to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in the sum of N100 million with one surety in like amount.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, who delivered the ruling, imposed strict conditions on the surety. The surety must reside in either Maitama or Asokoro districts of Abuja and must deposit the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property at the court registry.
The court also directed that the surety must be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 17 and provide evidence of salary payments for at least three months. All documents are to be authenticated by a letter from the surety’s bank manager within the court’s jurisdiction.
El-Rufai had been detained by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over allegations of corruption during his tenure as governor.
The development marks a significant relief for the former governor after weeks of legal battle over his bail ap
plications.
