By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed it is investigating a viral video in which the principal and staff of a secondary school in the state are pleading for help after being abducted by gunmen.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this while responding to enquiries on Sunday.
In the distressing video that surfaced on social media, the principal of Community High School, Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area, Mrs. Alamu, said armed men attacked the school on Friday around 9:30 a.m., abducting several teachers and students.
Another victim, identified as Temitope, who was seen carrying a baby, also made an emotional appeal for urgent intervention from the federal and state governments, the Christian Association of Nigeria, and well-meaning Nigerians.
The victims lamented the poor condition of the abducted children, who were reportedly crying in captivity.
DSP Olayinka said, “I have seen the video, we are working on it,” but noted that the command could not immediately confirm the full authenticity of the footage.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage online, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the worsening security situation in parts of Oyo State and calling for the immediate rescue
of the victims.
