NIGERIA: Troops Smash Bandit Strongholds In Bauchi, Rescue Eight Hostages And Recover Arms
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Nigerian troops of the 33 Artillery Brigade under Operation WUTAN DAJI have achieved a significant operational success after conducting a coordinated clearance operation in Kumbodoro Forest and Kumbodoro Village in Bauchi State.
The offensive delivered a major setback to bandit networks operating in the area.
According to a statement released by the army on Tuesday, the troops successfully cleared multiple bandit enclaves, including the notorious Azuge camps within the Kumbodoro Forest axis.
With support from the Air Component, they neutralised several bandits and dismantled key operational bases.
This action further weakened the criminals’ ability to threaten the lives and property of citizens in the region. During the operation, eight kidnapped victims were rescued.
A thorough search of the bandit enclaves resulted in the recovery of a substantial cache of arms and equipment. Among the items seized were four skeletal rifles, four dane guns, one FN rifle magazine, one AK-47 magazine, as well as various communication devices and other operational materials.
Additional recoveries included two pairs of boots, three helmets, one power bank, one StarTimes decoder, QJC meta links, one jackknife, six mobile handsets, arrows, radio chargers, OPAY ATM cards, photographs, an identity card, several pairs of security agency uniforms and leg chains.
In a related development, troops deployed at Duguri acted on credible intelligence and, working in collaboration with local vigilantes, recovered thirty-six cows at Mushen Kura Village.
The livestock are believed to have been abandoned by fleeing bandits as a result of sustained military pressure. Efforts are currently underway to identify the rightful owners and return the animals to them.
The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to restoring peace and stability across all theatres of operation. It continues to leverage intelligence-driven operations, joint force synergy, and strategic partnerships to ensure that bandits and terrorists have no safe haven in the country.
This latest success in Bauchi underscores the ongoing efforts by security forces to tackle insecurity in northern Nigeria, where banditry and kidnapping have long posed serious
threats to communities.
