The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed circulating concerns over the safety of examination centres, announcing the deployment of enhanced security measures nationwide ahead of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
The police said the claims suggesting insecurity at some centres, particularly in parts of the North Central region, are unfounded and should be disregarded by the public.
This was contained in a press release issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the Force has implemented proactive measures to ensure a safe and conducive environment for candidates sitting for the examination scheduled to commence on April 16.
“To this end, extra security has been deployed at examination centres nationwide, both overtly and covertly, to prevent any untoward incidents,” the statement read.
The police explained that the measures include routine patrols, perimeter surveillance, and the positioning of rapid response teams at strategic locations across the country.
It added that the Force is working in collaboration with other security agencies to monitor and respond swiftly to any potential threats.
“Any individual or group attempting to disrupt the examination process will be swiftly identified and brought to justice,” the statement warned.
The Force further reassured candidates, parents, and stakeholders that all necessary steps have been taken to guarantee their safety throughout the examination period.
Candidates were advised to arrive early at their centres, comply strictly with examination guidelines, and report any suspicious activities to security personnel on ground.
The police also urged members of the public to rely only on verified information from official sources, warning against the spread of misinformation capable of causing unnecessary panic.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Nigeria Police Force said it remains dedicated to maintaining public confidence and ensuring the smooth conduct of national activities, includi
