Nigeria’s sprint hurdles star, Tobi Amusan, reinforced her status as one of the world’s finest athletes on Sunday after winning the women’s 100m hurdles at the Paris Diamond League with a season best time of 12.28 seconds.
Competing at the Stade Charléty despite challenging weather conditions caused by a severe heatwave across France, the reigning world record holder produced a commanding performance, exploding out of the blocks and opening a decisive lead midway through the race to finish ahead of American duo Grace Stark, who clocked 12.38 seconds, and Johnson, who finished third in 12.39 seconds.
The victory marks another major statement from the 29 year old Nigerian, whose 12.28 seconds equals the season best she previously recorded at the Xiamen and Rabat Diamond League meetings earlier this year.
Amusan, the first Nigerian to win a World Athletics Championship gold medal and the holder of the women’s 100m hurdles world record of 12.12 seconds set in 2022, has continued to build momentum ahead of the Diamond League Final.
Her latest triumph comes as she seeks to add more titles to an illustrious career that already includes multiple Diamond League trophies, Commonwealth Games gold and African Championship titles.
