Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE, have recorded significant operational successes in Jos North and Wase Local Government Area as part of efforts to restore peace in Plateau State.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh.
According to the statement: “Troops responding to a distress call on sporadic shooting at Dutse Uku general area intercepted and apprehended two individuals masquerading as security operatives.”
The suspects were said to have been dressed in tactical uniforms and actively involved in acts of arson and violence within the community.
It added: “Those arrested are currently in custody while two persons who sustained gunshot wounds were moved to a medical facility and are in stable condition.”
The statement noted that the arrests counter allegations of military complicity in the unrest, attributing the violence to criminal elements impersonating security personnel.
“This pivotal arrest serves as a direct rebuttal to recent allegations suggesting military complicity in the Jos North unrest.”
In a separate operation in Karem, Wase Local Government Area, troops engaged suspected terrorists moving on motorcycles.
The statement further stated: “Upon being engaged by the military, the insurgents fled under the pressure of sustained combat, while three of the terrorists were successfully neutralised.”
The development follows the recent deployment of additional troops, including specialised counter-terrorism units, to strengthen operations in the state.
“All hoodlums, insurgents, and criminal syndicates currently operating within the State will be ruthlessly dealt with.”
The military urged residents to remain vigilant and support security efforts by reporting suspicious activities
to relevant authorities.
