NIGERIA: Kogi Versity Warns Students Against ‘7/7’ Celebration, Threatens Sanctions
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The management of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has reiterated its ban on all forms of “7/7” celebrations within the university campus and its environs, warning that violators will face arrest and disciplinary action.
In a public notice issued by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Uredo Omale, students were directed to comply strictly with the directive by avoiding suspicious gatherings and refraining from activities capable of disrupting the institution’s peace, security and academic environment.
The university warned that any student or individual found violating the ban would be arrested and handed over to the appropriate security agencies, in addition to facing the full weight of the law and the university’s disciplinary measures.
The management also urged members of the university community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or activities, stressing that security is everyone’s responsibility.
“7/7” is an annual cult-related date observed on July 7 by some secret cult groups in Nigerian tertiary institutions, often associated with initiation ceremonies, displays of allegiance, clashes between rival groups, and heightened security concerns.
