NIGERIA: IGP Disu Deploys DIG Operations To Kaduna Over Ariko Village Church Attack, Seven Kidnap Victims Rescued
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has directed the immediate deployment of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Shehu Umar Nadada, to Kaduna State following a deadly bandit attack on churches in Ariko Village near Gurara Dam.
On Sunday, armed bandits stormed the ECWA and Catholic Churches in the community during what appeared to be Easter-related activities, firing indiscriminately.
Five people were killed in the attack, while approximately fourteen others were abducted.
In a swift response, the IGP ordered operational intervention. DIG Nadada was deployed on-site to assess the situation, coordinate security efforts, and work towards restoring normalcy while securing the release of the abducted victims.
According to a statement issued on Monday, by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the joint team led by DIG Nadada, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services (DSS), successfully rescued seven of the kidnapped victims.
The rescued individuals have been taken to Katari Hospital for medical attention.
They are reported to be in stable condition and are expected to be reunited with their families soon.
The IGP has assured that operations are still ongoing to secure the release of the remaining abducted persons and to apprehend the perpetrators of the attack.
IGP Disu urged members of the public to remain vigilant, cooperate fully with security agencies, and provide credible intelligence that could aid ongoing efforts to restore peace and bring the culprits to justice.
The attack in Ariko Village, located in the Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, is the latest in a series of violent incidents targeting communities in the North-West and North-Central regions during the Easter period. It has heightened concerns over the safety of worshippers and rural communities amid persistent banditry and kidnapping activities in the area.
As of the time of filing this report, security operations continue in and around
the affected community.
