A men’s mental health advocacy group, Men and Kings, has urged men to open up to one another as a way of building resilience against life challenges that can lead to suicide.
The call comes at a time when mental health issues among men continue to rise, with many still struggling in silence due to stigma and societal expectations. The group believes creating safe spaces for men to share their experiences can help address the growing crisis.
Founder of the group, Blessings Banda, made the appeal in Lilongwe during an all-male engagement meeting that created space for discussions ranging from investment to health and personal development.
Banda emphasized the importance of openness among men, saying many suffer in silence because they fear being judged or seen as weak. “When men begin to support each other and openly share their experiences, it becomes easier to find meaningful solutions and build strong support systems,” he said.
He added that platforms like Men and Kings are designed to break the culture of silence and encourage honest conversations among men. “We want men to know that it is okay to speak out and seek help. Strength is not about silence, but about facing challenges together,” Banda explained.
Some participants at the meeting described the engagement as eye-opening, saying it provided them with a rare opportunity to discuss issues that are often ignored. One participant said, “This platform has helped me realize that I am not alone in my struggles, and that talking about them can actually bring solutions.”
The organization has since pledged to continue hosting similar engagements across the country to promote mental wellness and empower men to take an active role in supportin
g one another.
