President William Ruto was joined by his Uganda counterpart President Yoweri Museveni on the launch of the Kisumu–Malaba section of the Standard Gauge Railway, in a major step toward boosting regional connectivity and trade.
President Ruto said the project builds on the legacy of the historic Kenya–Uganda railway, which shaped economic growth across East Africa.
“We are confident that this modern infrastructure will replicate and surpass that legacy by igniting new growth corridors,” he said.
Uganda’s President Museveni welcomed the project, noting its importance in strengthening regional integration and unlocking trade opportunities across neighbouring countries.
The leaders said the planned extension of the railway to countries including DR Congo, South Sudan, Rwanda and Burundi will further deepen economic ties and position the region as a key t
