Kenya Assures Readiness for AFCON 2027 Amid Funding Timeline Concerns

Kenya is on track to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations despite concerns over funding timelines, Principal Secretary for Sports Elijah Mwangi has said.

Mwangi assured that the required Sh3.9 billion hosting fee has been secured, with only budget timing posing a challenge.

“The issue is not the money itself, but that the funds are not captured in the current budget cycle,” he said.

He added that the government is engaging the National Assembly of Kenya to include the funds in a supplementary budget to meet the June 30 deadline.

“Kenyans should not panic… there is still sufficient time to prepare and deliver a successful AFCON,” Mwangi said.

Kenya will co-host the tournament with Uganda and Tanza
