KENYA: Gachagua Warns Museveni Over Media Crackdown, Says Journalists Must Be Protected
By Moses Punyuah
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has criticized the reported closure of media outlets in Uganda, warning President Yoweri Museveni and Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba against extending threats to journalists operating in Kenya.
Gachagua argued that media suppression cannot conceal “unfulfilled promises, economic hardship and corruption,” insisting that “shutting down the channels that expose these failures doesn’t make them disappear.”
He further warned that if any journalist is harmed in Kenya, whether a foreign national or a resident, the government must be held accountable, pledging to remain vocal against any threats to press freedom.
