SPORTS: Mbappe Accuses PSG Of Harassment In Legal Battle Over Unpaid Wages
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Kylian Mbappe has filed a legal complaint against his former club, Paris Saint-Germain, accusing them of moral harassment, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office.
The French star’s complaint, now under investigation, adds a new layer of tension to his ongoing legal dispute with PSG over €55 million in unpaid wages and bonuses.
At the heart of the harassment allegation is PSG’s treatment of Mbappe during the summer of 2023. After refusing to sign a new contract, he was excluded from the club’s pre-season tour of Asia and was forced to train with players deemed surplus to requirements.
Mbappe believes this sidelining was deliberate punishment. The French players’ union had previously raised concerns about such practices, calling them a form of coercion that affects multiple professional players.
Despite being frozen out, Mbappe eventually returned to PSG’s first team after discussions with club management. However, relations never fully healed.
The 26-year-old left PSG at the end of the season, joining Real Madrid, where he now plays under far less dramatic circumstances.
Mbappe spent seven years in Paris, scoring 256 goals in 308 appearances. Ironically, PSG lifted their first-ever UEFA Champions League trophy shortly after his departure.
The case raises broader questions about how clubs handle contract standoffs with top players—and whether punitive training bans cross the line into abuse.
For now, the Paris prosecutor’s office says the harassment claims are under formal investigation. PSG has not issued an official response.
