NIGERIA: Tinubu Reaffirms Commitment To Governance, Commissions Abuja Road
By Ameenat Hamzat, Lagos, Nigeria
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to effective governance and modern infrastructure development in Nigeria.
Speaking through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, at the commissioning of the newly completed Arterial Road N5 in Abuja, Tinubu emphasized that visionary leadership must be matched with decisive action for national development.
The road, named after the late statesman Chief Obafemi Awolowo, connects Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III in the heart of the Federal Capital City. It is expected to ease traffic in surrounding districts including Dape, Gwarimpa 1, Kado, Karsana, Idu, and Dambora.
The President said: “The Arterial Road N5 represents what we can achieve when vision meets action. It reflects our dedication to building modern infrastructure that improves the daily lives of our people. This project is a symbol of collective progress and a better future.”
He commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, and his team for their efforts in actualizing the project and delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Abuja.
Tinubu also lauded construction firm Julius Berger for the successful execution of the project and encouraged Abuja residents to take ownership of the infrastructure.
“Own it, use it wisely, protect it, and celebrate it,” the president added.
In his remarks, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike reaffirmed President Tinubu’s commitment to national development, noting that despite current challenges, brighter days lie ahead.
“I can assure Abuja residents that the kind of development you’ll witness under President Tinubu will confirm that he truly means well for this country,” Wike stated.
The former Rivers State governor also addressed his political journey, attributing his strength and visibility to the loyal support of his allies across Nigeria.
He noted: “Nobody can look at me today and say there’s no hope for Rivers State. My strength lies in the people around me. He praised his supporters from Rivers and other states for their backing.
Wike disclosed that the Arterial Road N5 was awarded by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in September 2024 and flagged off the following month. He expressed optimism that the second phase, which will link the road to the airport, would be completed before the end of the year.
He noted: “We’ve already begun engaging with local communities to ensure smooth construction for Phase 2.”
