Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has expressed deep sorrow over the brutal killing of nearly 200 people in Tadurga Ward, Zuru Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Malami made this known in a statement issued by Mohammed Bello Doka, the Special Assistant on Media to the former AG and made available to the press on Wednesday.
Malami described the attack as barbaric and devastating, noting that it leaves a painful scar on the conscience of the nation and underlines the urgent need for strengthened security and development across rural communities.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed.
He also urged the government at all levels to rise to their constitutional responsibility of protecting the lives and property of Nigerians.
“This is not just a tragedy for Zuru or Kebbi State; it is a national catastrophe,” the statement said.
Malami called on the federal and state governments to urgently intervene in Zuru and neighboring local government areas such as Dankowasagu, Fakai, and Sakaba, which he described as severely underdeveloped and vulnerable.
He criticized the continued existence of poor roads, inadequate hospitals, ill-equipped schools, and weak security presence in the region, stressing that such neglect endangers the lives of citizens.
Malami also urged the people of Kebbi, especially Zuru indigenes, to remain united, prayerful, and active in demanding justice.
“Zuru is bleeding, and it must not be ignored,” he said, calling for 24 hours of awareness-raising and solidarity in honor of the victims.
He concluded with a prayer for divine guidance for Nigeria’s leaders and protection for all communities across the country.
