The Kwara State Government has officially unveiled a 70-meter flagpole, hailed as the tallest in West Africa, as a symbol of cultural pride, state identity, and economic aspiration.
Announcing the development in a statement on Friday, the State Commissioner for Works, Abdulquawiy Olododo, described the towering structure, proudly bearing the Nigerian flag, as a landmark that reflects the resilience, unity, and modern vision of the Kwara people.
Olododo siad: “Kwara’s newest landmark goes beyond mere symbolism; it acts as a cultural yardstick, reflecting the rich heritage, traditions, and values of the Kwara people. It stands not only as a physical monument but as a declaration of identity and a beacon of economic transformation.”
The Commissioner said the flagpole serves as a strategic statement of Kwara’s evolving image, from a civil service-dominated economy to a hub for innovation, tourism, trade, agribusiness, and the creative industry.
He added that the installation aims to attract investment, promote tourism, and reinforce the state’s cultural diversity and social cohesion.
According to Olododo, the flag that now flies prominently over Kwara represents not just national sovereignty but also the collective spirit and aspirations of its diverse communities.
“This structure is a celebration of our shared values and a bold invitation to embrace new opportunities It symbolises the fusion of tradition and progress, urging every resident to be part of Kwara’s journey toward sustainable development.”
He emphasised the importance of inclusive growth, encouraging citizens to reflect on their roles in building a future that harmonises cultural heritage with economic advancement.
The flagpole, standing at 70 meters, is now one of Kwara’s most prominent landmarks, intended to serve both as a tourist attraction and a visual representation of the state’s renewed commitment to transformation and unity.
