A family in Kangemi, Nairobi, is in mourning after their 17-year-old son, Wilberforce Kisia a rising dancer and online personality was allegedly beaten to death by bouncers at the VVIP Rooftop Club.
Kisia, who had left home last Sunday to pursue performance opportunities, never returned. His family began to worry after he went silent and his videos started disappearing from the club’s social media platforms.
“We expected him back on Monday morning,” said Kennedy Ambani, Kisia’s brother. “By Tuesday, we hadn’t heard anything. That’s when we knew something was wrong.”
Despite efforts to locate him through friends and social media, his whereabouts remained unknown for four days.
Eventually, the family uncovered disturbing details, witnesses claimed he had been assaulted by two security guards following an altercation at the club.
He was allegedly choked, dragged into a secluded room, and left without medical attention.
Vincent Mudoga, another of Kisia’s brothers, said he was last seen dancing before one guard restrained him and handed him over to another who held him by the neck.
Kisia’s death was only reported the following evening. A post-mortem confirmed he suffered fatal injuries from a prolonged beating, including blunt force trauma.
Two club security guards have since been arrested in connection with the incident and are scheduled to appear in court on May 21, 2025.
Kisia’s mother, Joyce Kavai, expressed her grief and frustration, questioning how her underage son ended up in such a dangerous situation. “They took my son’s life. No one tells me why. I keep asking and I get no answers,” she said tearfully.
The family is demanding justice and accountability, particularly regarding how a minor was allowed into such an establishment.
“I can’t bear to look at his pictures they break my heart. He didn’t deserve to die like that,” Kavai added.
The tragedy has sparked public concern over the safety and regulation of entertainment venues, especially those employing or admitting minors.
