NIGERIA: Tinubu Rallies Governors to Drive Development Through Agriculture

By Ameenat Hamzat, Lagos, Nigeria
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has placed agriculture at the center of Nigeria’s developmental agenda, calling on state governors to shift focus from political distractions and invest in initiatives that yield tangible results, particularly in food security and poverty eradication.
Speaking during a two-day working visit to Katsina State, the President stressed that the nation’s future lies in revitalizing agriculture, not oil. He described hunger and poverty as the most pressing threats to national peace, and positioned mechanized farming as a solution.
Tinubu said: “The economy is on the right trajectory. We are seeing an effort to banish hunger and a commitment to food security and the empowerment of our people. We must invest in mechanization and water management. The old style of agriculture is gone.”
In line with this vision, the President commissioned the newly completed Katsina Agricultural Mechanized Centre, applauding the Governor of the state, Dikko Umar Radda, calling the center “a great investment” that should be replicated across states.
He also unveiled the 24-kilometer Eastern Bypass road, completed within 18 months, emphasizing that the measure of true leadership is visible impact.
He added: “Your hard work and concrete achievements will answer any criticism. Ignore distractions, your results will speak for you.”
As part of long-term agricultural reform, the President announced plans to revitalize the Bank of Agriculture to provide accessible funding for farmers at all scales.
Tinubu commended the traditional institutions of Katsina and Daura for fostering national unity and pledged continued federal support for states that align with the administration’s vision for sustainable development.
