NIGERIA: JAMB Offers Cash Reward To Debunk Exam Town Misinformation

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has strongly debunk widespread claims that some of the 2025 JAMB candidates are being assigned to examination centres outside their selected towns, describing the narrative as “malicious” and “baseless.”
In a statement issued by the Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, on Saturday, JAMB reaffirmed that candidates are assigned to Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres strictly within their chosen examination towns at the point of registration.
The Board also stressed that any assertion to the contrary is aimed solely at tarnishing its reputation.
The statement reads: “At the time of registration, candidates have the right to select their preferred examination town. JAMB subsequently assigns them to a centre within that chosen town. The baseless assertion that candidates are placed in towns different from their selections is erroneous, malicious, and aimed solely at tarnishing the Board’s reputation.”
To challenge the false claims, JAMB announced a financial reward for any individual who can provide authentic proof of even one candidate being posted outside their selected town. The evidence must be submitted within 96 hours to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) via WhatsApp on 08056003030.
For fairness and transparency, the Board emphasized that an independent body, the FCCPC, would verify any claims before any reward is disbursed.
JAMB also clarified the reason candidates are advised to arrive at CBT centres 90 minutes before their scheduled exams, comparing it to airline policies where passengers are expected to arrive hours before flight departures to complete preliminary verification processes.
Highlighting a bizarre case, the Board narrated how a female UTME candidate refused to attempt any question during her exam, believing in a “miraculous intervention” promised by her grandfather.
JAMB warned candidates against indulging in superstition, urging them instead to prepare adequately for their examinations.
The statement concluded: “Candidates are advised against superstitious and baseless dreams of reaping where they did not sow.”
