Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as “Portable,” has been granted bail in the sum of ₦1 million by an Upper Area Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State.
This comes a day after his arrest and arraignment on multiple charges including criminal defamation, intimidation, incitement to public disturbance, and cyberstalking.
The court, during Monday’s session, ruled that the bail is subject to the provision of two sureties in like sum. According to the bail conditions, one surety must be either the Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), while the other must own a landed property within a Government Reserved Area (GRA) in Ilorin, backed by a valid Certificate of Occupancy.
Earlier, the Kwara State Police Command had confirmed Portable’s arrest following a petition from one Mr. Okunola Saheed, popularly known as “Osupa,” over allegations of threats, defamation, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
The singer was arrested in Abeokuta on Saturday, April 13, and brought to Ilorin for interrogation and legal proceedings.
As of the time of filing this report, sources reveal that Portable remains in custody pending fulfillment of his bail conditions.
The Kwara State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to due process and cautioned the public against the spread of unverified information. Further developments are expected in the coming days.
