KENYA: Gachagua Questions Motive Behind Attack During Kenya Church Visit

By Lisbeth Micheni, Kenya
Kenyan Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has strongly condemned an attack that took place during a church service he attended, calling it an unfortunate incident.
The disturbance occurred on Sunday at PCEA Mwiki when a group of unidentified individuals attempted to disrupt the service shortly after Gachagua and his team arrived.
The attackers tried to force their way into the church, creating a moment of chaos that briefly unsettled worshippers.
Speaking after the situation was brought under control, Gachagua expressed disbelief at the incident, questioning why such acts were happening in this day and age.
“I do not understand why individuals were sent to disrupt our church service. I will not say much now because I have an interview tomorrow, and I have things to discuss,” he stated.
He further claimed that there have been deliberate efforts to restrict his movement and hinder his engagement with allies.
His security detail quickly moved to shield him, taking defensive positions to prevent the attackers from gaining entry.
Gunshots were reportedly heard as tensions escalated.
During the commotion, church members stood their ground against the intruders while the presiding bishop urged for calm.
Security personnel later managed to restore order, allowing the service to proceed without further interruptions.
Gachagua was accompanied by several political allies, including Members of Parliament and local leaders, ahead of his scheduled national television interview today, where he is expected to address his supporters and share his views on the current political landscape.
