NIGERIA: MultiChoice Nigeria Announces Another Price Hike For DStv And GOtv Subscriptions

By Ameenat Hamzat,Lagos, Nigeria
Pay-TV operator, MultiChoice Nigeria, has announced an upward review of its subscription prices for both DStv and GOtv packages, set to take effect from March 1, 2025.
This marks yet another price adjustment following a similar increase in May 2024.
In a notice sent to customers on Monday, the company attributed the hike to rising operational costs, inflation, and the depreciation of the naira.
The statement reads: “Dear Customer, please note that effective 1 March 2025, there will be a price adjustment on all DStv packages. This is to enable us to continue to offer our customers world-class home-grown and international content, delivered through the best technology.”
Under the new pricing regime, subscribers on the DStv Compact package will see their fees rise from N15,700 to N19,000, while Compact Plus subscribers will now pay N30,000 instead of the previous N25,000. The highest-tier package, DStv Premium, will jump from N37,000 to N44,500.
Similarly, GOtv subscribers will also experience price adjustments. The GOtv Jinja package will now cost N3,900, up from N3,600, while GOtv Plus moves from N4,850 to N5,800.
The GOtv Max package will now cost N8,500, while GOtv Supa and Supa Plus will be priced at N11,400 and N16,800, respectively.
MultiChoice defended the increase by citing Nigeria’s challenging economic environment, including high inflation and a weakened local currency, which have significantly impacted its operational expenses.
The latest hike has sparked concerns among subscribers, many of whom have previously criticized the company for frequent price increases amid economic hardship.
Some customers have taken to social media to express frustration, calling for more affordable alternatives or regulatory intervention.
Despite the backlash, MultiChoice maintains that the price review is necessary to sustain the quality of its services and content offerings in Nigeria.
