Showmax, a Nigerian owned viewing platform, has announced that Iyanu, the animated adaptation of Roye Okupe’s graphic novel series Iyanu: Child of Wonder, will premiere exclusively in Africa on June 13, 2025.
Produced by Lion Forge Entertainment, the series brings Nigerian culture and mythology to life through a compelling story.
On its official Instagram page, Showmax recently released the official trailer, offering viewers a glimpse into the magical world of Iyanu.
Iyanu, a movie set in the mystical kingdom of Yorubaland, follows the journey of a courageous orphan who studies history and ancient arts while yearning for a normal life.
However, when a looming threat awakens her hidden divine powers – long lost since the legendary Age of Wonders, she embarks on a thrilling adventure.
With her trusted friends, Biyi, Toye, and a magical leopard named Ekun, Iyanu must uncover the source of the danger and embrace her destiny.
Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and Channels West Africa, expressed enthusiasm for the series, stating: “Iyanu brings Nigerian culture and mythology to life in an exciting and authentic way.
“We are proud to be the home of its African premiere and can’t wait for audiences across the continent to experience this epic adventure on Showmax.”
