Juja Member of Parliament, George Ndung’u Koimburi, has been freed on a Ksh.200,000 cash bail after pleading not guilty to multiple charges of academic document forgery.
Koimburi appeared before the Kiambu Law Courts on Wednesday, following his arrest on Tuesday.
He is accused of six counts of falsifying academic credentials and presenting them as legitimate.
According to the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Koimburi allegedly forged a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate between November and December 1994, making it appear as an authentic document issued by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).
Additionally, he faces accusations of forging two certificates from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT): one for participation in the East African Universities Accession Project and another for academic excellence from the School of Human Resource Development.
The ODPP stated that Koimburi knowingly presented these documents as genuine at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) offices on March 8, 2021.
After denying all charges, the court is set to rule on February 20 on whether he will face an additional charge for failing to appear in court as required.
The prosecution noted that Koimburi had previously been charged with similar offenses in April 2021 and released on a Ksh.100,000 bond.
However, after missing a court appearance in September 2021, a warrant for his arrest was issued, and his cash bail was forfeited.
