NIGERIA: Police Arrest Murder Suspect, Recover Firearm, Apprehend Lagos Traffic Robbers

By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, has announced a series of successful operations by the Nigeria Police Force, leading to the arrest of a murder suspect, the recovery of firearms, and the apprehension of traffic robbers in Lagos State.
These efforts, he stated, are part of the Force’s commitment to tackling crime and ensuring public safety across the country.
In one of the operations, officers from the Lagos State Police Command’s Satellite Division, during a routine patrol on February 7, 2025, intercepted a suspect, Wisdom Obi, 24, at Abule Ado bus stop along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Amuwo Odofin.
Obi, who was riding an unregistered motorcycle, was subjected to a search, leading to the discovery of a brownie pistol and 13 rounds of live ammunition concealed inside an MP3 radio.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody, while the motorcycle and recovered items were documented as exhibits as investigations continue.
In a separate incident on the same day, operatives from the Orile Iganmu Division apprehended four suspected traffic robbers attempting to rob stranded passengers from a broken-down vehicle at the Ascon White Sand area of Orile Iganmu.
The suspects, identified as Kadir Ibrahim, Ifeanyin John, Oduwole Shola, and Rilwan Olajuwon, were caught in the act and are currently in police custody while investigations proceed.
The police have urged the public to be vigilant and cautious of criminals who disguise as roadside traders but prey on unsuspecting commuters trapped in traffic.
Earlier, on February 5, 2025, the Ikoyi Division responded to a violent confrontation at Falomo Square, Ikoyi, which led to the death of one individual.
The altercation involved Okeke Johnchris and William Wisdom, 33, and escalated when Okeke allegedly rammed his Lexus saloon car into William, causing severe injuries.
The victim was rushed to Gbagada General Hospital, where he later died. Detectives visited the scene, and the deceased was taken to the IDH Morgue in Yaba for an autopsy.
The suspect, Okeke Johnchris, has been arrested and remains in police custody pending further investigations and arraignment.
The Nigeria Police Force has cautioned citizens against violent confrontations, urging individuals to resolve disputes through legal channels rather than resorting to physical aggression.
ACP Adejobi reaffirmed the Force’s dedication to maintaining law and order, urging Nigerians to remain security-conscious and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
