The Malawi Conference of Catholic Bishops (MCCB) has elected a new president, Bishop Martin Anwel Mtumbuka, to take over from Archbishop George Desmond Tambala.
Bishop Mtumbuka, from the Karonga Diocese, assumes the role, while Bishop Adrian Chifukwa of the Dedza Diocese has been elected Vice President of MCCB, succeeding Bishop Monfort Sitima of Mangochi.
According to MCCB Secretary General, Very Reverend Father Valeriano Mtseka, the new leadership is committed to continuing to guide the faithful to God.
The elections were held during the bishops’ plenary meeting last week at the MCCB secretariat in Lilongwe.
Bishop Mtumbuka’s election as president of MCCB marks a significant milestone for the Catholic Church in Malawi.
As the new leader, he will play a crucial role in shaping the Church’s response to various social, economic, and political issues affecting the country.
The MCCB is the apex body of the Catholic Church in Malawi, comprising all Catholic bishops in the country.
The organization plays a vital role in promoting the Church’s teachings, advocating for social justice, and providing humanitarian services to those in need.
Under the new leadership, the MCCB is expected to continue its efforts in promoting peace, unity, and development in Malawi.
The organization will also focus on strengthening its relationships with other faith-based organizations, government institutions, and civil society groups to address various challenges facing the country.
As Bishop Mtumbuka and his team begin their new roles, they carry the hopes and expectations of the Catholic faithful in Malawi.
The MCCB’s new leadership is poised to make a positive impact on the Church and the country as a whole.
