President Bola Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to Nigerian music sensation Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, following her victory at the 67th Grammy Awards.
The singer clinched the award for Best African Music Performance with her song Love Me JeJe, further cementing her global influence in the music industry.
The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, conveyed Tinubu’s message in a statement on Monday, praising Tems for her outstanding artistry and for bringing immense pride to Nigeria on the world stage.
This marks the artist’s second Grammy win, adding to her growing legacy in the Afrobeats genre.
Tems emerged victorious in a highly competitive category, surpassing notable Nigerian acts such as Yemi Alade (Tomorrow), Asake and Wizkid (MMS), Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay (Sensational), and Burna Boy (Higher).
Her success was hailed as yet another testament to the rapid rise of Nigerian music globally.
President Tinubu highlighted the profound impact of Nigerian music, particularly Afrobeats, in shaping global entertainment.
He acknowledged the genre’s ability to unify audiences across continents and reinforce Nigeria’s status as a cultural powerhouse.
Beyond Tems’ victory, the President also celebrated other Nigerian artists nominated at this year’s Grammys, including Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, Lojay, Davido, and Burna Boy. He described them as patriots who have continuously showcased Nigeria’s creative excellence to the world.
“You are all an inspiration and role models to many young people,” Tinubu stated. “The nation remains deeply grateful for your contributions to music, job creation, and tourism promotion. I wish you all continued success in your musical careers.”
With Nigerian artists consistently gaining international acclaim, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the creative industry, recognizing its significant role in shaping the nation’s global image and economic growth.
