Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved a contribution of N30 million to the Kwankwasiyya Media Forum, an arm of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), as part of efforts to bolster their capacity in promoting government policies and initiatives.
The announcement was made on Monday during an empowerment programme organised by the forum at the Coronation Hall, Kano Government House.
Governor Yusuf described the event as “historic,” coinciding with his 62nd birthday and his first official engagement of 2025.
In his remarks, the governor commended the forum’s dedication to bridging the communication gap between the government and citizens, ensuring that the public remains informed about the administration’s developmental strides.
He emphasised that even modest contributions could significantly inspire and motivate those involved in public enlightenment.
According to a press statement by the governor’s spokesman, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, the N30 million contribution aims to enhance the forum’s capacity for advocacy and public enlightenment.
Governor Yusuf lauded the professionalism of the Kwankwasiyya Media Forum, particularly in their approach to engaging opposition parties.
“I urge you to continue maintaining objectivity and politeness in political discourse,” Yusuf said, adding that such respectful engagement would ultimately convert even the harshest critics into allies.
The governor expressed confidence in the leadership of the forum, particularly Chairman Alhaji Nagoda Murtala Zawai, alongside Nura Bakwankwashe and Ali Gyara Hausawa, for their commitment to empowering media advocates and fostering public understanding of government projects.
Earlier in the programme, Chairman Nagoda revealed that the forum had raised N11 million from the NNPP’s friends, Commissioners, and aides to support their media vanguards’ empowerment initiative.
This funding is intended to enhance the capacity of media members to advocate for transparency and public engagement effectively.
Governor Yusuf assured the forum of continued collaboration, pledging to work closely with its executive members to explore additional opportunities for engagement in future empowerment initiatives.
“This partnership reflects our administration’s commitment to supporting platforms that promote accountability, transparency, and public involvement,” he said.
