Nigeria: No One Can Just Order The Police To Make An Arrest – Police Spokesperson, Adeh

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has refuted claims that popular musician Damini Ogulu, also known as Burna Boy, ordered the arrest of his colleague, Darlington Okoye, better known as Speed Darlington.
Recall AFRICAN CULTURE TV reported that Speed Darlington was arrested and detained following a petition by Burna Boy, accusing him of cyberstalking. The arrest, which took place in Lagos, saw Darlington transferred to various police formations before being taken to Abuja and detained by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT).
After spending five days in detention, Darlington was released, sparking outrage on social media, with many accusing Burna Boy of using his influence to instigate the arrest.
In response to the allegations, FCT Police Spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, issued a statement on Saturday, clarifying that no individual, regardless of status, has the power to order the police to arrest anyone. She emphasized that police arrests are only made following thorough investigations.
Adeh said, “Let’s set the record straight! No one—yes, NO ONE—can just ‘order’ the police to make an arrest. The Police act on real investigations, not personal vendettas.”
She further warned influencers and bloggers against spreading misinformation, urging individuals to cooperate with investigations and present their side of the story when needed.
