Hadiza El-Rufai, the former First Lady of Kaduna State, took to social media to correct the grammar of former Senator Shehu Sani following his comment about President Bola Tinubu’s foreign trips.
The exchange took place on X (formerly Twitter), where Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, had criticized the economic impact of Tinubu’s travels.
In his post, Sani humorously suggested that the President’s foreign trips correlate with rising taxes and commodity prices. He wrote: “New law of economics; When the President travels out, taxes and prices goes up.”
Hadiza El-Rufai, known for her sharp eye for grammar on X, quickly responded, correcting Sani’s choice of words. She pointed out that the phrase should read “go up” rather than “goes up.”
The online correction comes in the backdrop of a long-standing political rivalry between Sani and Hadiza’s husband, Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State.
Their feud peaked during the 2019 elections, which saw Sani lose his Senate seat to Uba Sani, a former ally of El-Rufai.
Sani, once a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), left the party amidst his political rift with El-Rufai, a move that many analysts believe cost him his reelection bid.
