Former militant leader Asari Dokubo has distanced himself from the Biafra movement, stating that he feels more aligned with his Muslim brothers and prefers being Nigerian.
Speaking during a live video on his Facebook page on Thursday, Dokubo acknowledged his Igbo heritage but revealed that he no longer supports the Biafran cause, which he had once identified with.
During the broadcast, Dokubo again claimed that helicopters have been flying over his property.
The claim and threat to shot down the helicopters sparked a war of words with the Nigerian military. The Defense Headquarters (DHQ) has responded, challenging Dokubo to experience the battlefield firsthand to witness the military’s capabilities.
In a viral video last Saturday, Dokubo alleged that two helicopters had hovered over his home for more than 30 minutes, which he interpreted as a provocation from the government, the police, and supporters of Nyesom Wike, former Rivers State Governor and current FCT Minister.
“If the helicopters are shot down, don’t blame me,” Dokubo warned. “I swear by Allah that I will shoot them down if necessary.”
In response, Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defense Media Operations, dared Dokubo to prove his claims on the battlefield, asserting the strength of the military.
