Nigeria – Atiku Slams Tinubu Over Fuel Subsidy Crisis, Labels Him ‘TPain’
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Nigerian Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s management of the fuel subsidy crisis, referring to him as “TPain” in a tweet on Thursday.
Atiku blamed Tinubu’s administration for Nigeria’s worsening economic woes, calling out what he described as a “haphazard and disingenuous approach” to the issue of fuel subsidies.
In his statement, Atiku expressed grave concern over the escalating inflation, which he noted was causing significant hardship for Nigerians.
He lamented that despite the deepening economic challenges, Tinubu appeared indifferent to the plight of the citizens.
“The haphazard and disingenuous approach of the current administration to fuel subsidy management has been the reason we are in this current economic crisis. As things stand, there will be no let-up in the escalating inflation rate, which is drowning the material well-being of Nigerians,”
Atiku tweeted: “It is even more worrying that T-Pain is undisturbed by the hardship in the country,” he added.
The term ‘TPain’ has gained traction on social media platforms like X and Instagram, becoming a nickname for Tinubu, combining the first letter of his name and referencing American rapper T-Pain.
Frustrations over the rising cost of living under Tinubu’s administration have fueled its use.
According to reports from Peoples Gazette, the term first surfaced on social media in April 2024, but gained widespread popularity by mid-September after a user on X used it while discussing Tinubu’s visit to Maiduguri to console flood victims.
