MALAWI: Kukaya Festival Positions Itself As Major Platform For Arts And Tourism In Northern Region

Organisers of the Kukaya Musical and Cultural Festival say the event is positioning itself as a major platform for promoting artistic talent, cultural expression and tourism in Malawi’s Northern Region.

The third edition of the festival, scheduled for 28 and 29 August at Rayon’s Events Gardens in Mzuzu, is expected to bring together musicians, artists, culture enthusiasts and members of the public for two days of entertainment and cultural celebration.

Kukaya Organisation Chief Executive Officer and Founding Director Wongani Mkandawire told Africa Culture tv that the festival is aimed at creating opportunities for artists to showcase their talents while providing the public with quality entertainment.

Mkandawire said the event would also contribute to the growth of the region’s creative industry by providing artists with a platform to reach wider audiences.

Mzuzu City Mayor Chiyembekezo Glyn Moses has commended the organisers for introducing the initiative and urged Rayon to consider hosting regular entertainment activities, including weekly cinema screenings and traditional dance performances.

Moses said such initiatives would help provide residents with more opportunities to access entertainment within the city.

Rayon’s Operations Director Asimenye Mukumbwa said the institution decided to partner with the Kukaya Festival organisers to create a platform where people could socialise, relax and enjoy entertainment during their free time.

The festival will feature renowned musicians, including Zeze Kingston, as organisers seek to establish the Kukaya Musical and Cultural Festival as a major annual event on the Northern Region’s entertainment and cultural calendar.
