KENYA: “They’ve Graduated From Protesters to Goons!’ Ruto Vows Tough Crackdown Ahead of 2027 Polls
By Moses Punyuah, Nairobi
President William Ruto has defended the government’s tougher stance on political violence, saying those involved in the 2024 Gen Z protests have since “graduated from protesters to goons” and warning that the State will no longer tolerate lawlessness.
Speaking in Busia County, the President assured Kenyans that the 2027 General Election will be peaceful, insisting that no individual or group will be allowed to disrupt political activities.
“We were lenient with those who were demonstrating… They have now graduated from protesters to goons. We have vowed to deal with all goons,” said Ruto.
The President said elections should never be a source of violence, adding that every Kenyan will be free to campaign and vote peacefully.
His remarks come amid heightened political tensions following the Ol Kalou by-election, where armed gangs disrupted the exercise, with both the government and opposition trading blame over the violence.
