The federal government has moved to strengthen its partnership with the United Nations to expand job opportunities and skills development for youths and women across the country.
Vice President Kashim Shettima said the collaboration will focus on financial inclusion, employment creation, and security as part of efforts to drive inclusive growth.
He spoke during a meeting with a United Nations delegation led by Assistant Secretary-General on Youth Affairs, Felipe Paullier, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
“The youths are the backbone of every society’s transformation… the anticipated demographic bulge will be transformed into demographic dividends.”
Shettima said the administration is working to position young people as drivers of economic growth while advancing gender equality through targeted policies and programmes.
He also proposed the creation of institutional frameworks to strengthen collaboration between Nigeria and the United Nations on youth and women-focused initiatives.
Earlier, Paullier described Nigeria as a vibrant country with young people at the centre of its development, noting that the UN delegation’s visit is aimed at supporting the government’s priorities.
“Advancing youth development requires gender equality, as well as access to employment
and education.”
