Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has promised that the perpetrators of the heinous attack on innocent citizens in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, will not go unpunished.
The governor made the commitment during a visit to the grieving community on Monday, where he stood with families who lost loved ones in the Sunday night assault.
In a post on X, Governor Mutfwang expressed deep sorrow over the incident. “Today, I visited Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area with a heavy heart following the heinous attack on innocent citizens. I stood with grieving families, listened to their pain, and shared in their loss. No words can truly capture the depth of sorrow in moments like this, but I want every affected family to know you are not alone. Your pain is my pain, and the pain of Plateau State,” he wrote.
The governor assured residents that his administration would pursue justice relentlessly. “I assure you that those responsible for this evil act will not go unpunished. My administration will pursue justice until the perpetrators are brought to book,” he stated.
To provide immediate relief, Mutfwang announced that the Plateau State Government would take full responsibility for the medical bills of all those injured in the attack and ensure a befitting burial for the deceased. “We will also ensure that the lives lost are honored with dignity through a befitting burial. Furthermore, the Plateau State Government will take full responsibility for the medical treatment of all those currently receiving care as a result of this attack,” he added.
The governor emphasised that security is a shared responsibility and appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders to work together with the government. “Security is a shared responsibility, and together, we must rise above division and confront this challenge with unity and resolve,” he said, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and rebuilding trust across the state.
African Culture TV had reported that the Sunday attack claimed the lives of 12 people, including 10 men and two women. The state government has since imposed a 48-hour curfew on Jos North Local Government Area, particularly in the Angwan Rukuba community, effective from midnight of March 29 to April 1, 2026.
This latest violence comes weeks after at least 20 security operatives and vigilantes were killed in an ambush by gunmen in Kanam Local Government Area of the state. The recurring attacks have heightened fears and tension in Plateau, a state that has long struggled with cycles of communal and herdsmen-related violence.
Governor Mutfwang’s visit and assurances are seen as an attempt to calm frayed nerves and demonstrate government presence in the affected community.
However, many residents continue to demand concrete security measures and swift prosecution of those responsible for the killings.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the persistent insecurity in Plateau State, even as the government struggles to contain violence that has claimed many
lives in recent years.
