Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Frank Mba, and seven other senior officers have retired from the Nigeria Police Force following changes in the leadership structure of the force.
The development follows the appointment of Tunji Disu as the new Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, replacing Kayode Egbetokun.
Disu, before his appointment, served as an Assistant Inspector-General of Police, a rank below the Deputy Inspector-General.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Service Commission (PSC) announced that seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police had been promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General after undergoing an oral interview and written examination.
The newly promoted DIGs are Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, and Umar Shehu Nadada.
The commission also noted that Fayoade Adegoke, who was promoted to the rank of DIG in February 2026, will now join the police force management team.
Torty Njoku Kalu, spokesperson of the PSC, said the promotions were part of efforts to strengthen the leadership structure of the Nigeria Police Force.
“The Commission approved the promotion of seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General following oral interview and written examination conducted on Friday,” she said.
Frank Mba joined the Nigeria Police Force in May 1992 as a cadet inspector and rose through the ranks while serving in several key positions.
A native of Ezimo in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Mba graduated as the best cadet inspector in academics from the Police Academy in Kano.
He later served as Commissioner of Police in Ogun State and as Commissioner of Police in charge of the Border Patrol Force at the Force Headquarters.
Mba also held several operational commands in Lagos, including Area Commander in Ajah and Festac, and served two terms as the Force Public Relations Officer.
The police officer studied law at the University of Lagos and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002. He later obtained a master’s degree in law with distinction from the Univers
ity of Dundee in Scotland.
