Kenya Scales Up Research Funding as AMREF International University Receives Charter

Kenya is boosting investment in science, technology, and innovation through the new Kenya National Research Fund, which will prioritise research in health, agriculture, manufacturing, and climate change. President William Ruto said universities aligning their research with national priorities “will receive support to scale up their impact.”



Presiding over the award of charter to AMREF International University in Kiambu County, the President hailed the institution’s work in training healthcare professionals. With 3,800 learners from 32 countries, 70 per cent of them women, the university has demonstrated strong leadership in advancing women’s roles in health.
President Ruto commended AMREF International University for embracing innovation and grounding its programmes in real community needs, noting that the institution has shown that “African challenges can be solved by African sol
utions.”
