SPORTS: Falcons Players Allegedly Lost Cash In Moroccan Hotel Ahead Of WAFCON

Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo has accused staff at the team’s hotel in Casablanca, Morocco, of stealing cash from players’ rooms ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Okoronkwo made the allegation in a series of Snapchat posts on Friday, claiming the incidents occurred while players were away from their rooms and hotel cleaners were carrying out housekeeping duties.

According to the forward, she initially believed $500 had been stolen from her room but later corrected the amount to $700 after reviewing her calculations.

“The cleaning people stole the money. So they waited while we weren’t in the room to clean and steal the money,” she wrote.

She also alleged that several of her teammates were affected. According to her posts, Halimatu Ayinde lost $100, Asisat Oshoala also had $100 stolen, while Joy Omewa reportedly lost £120. Okoronkwo added that another teammate also lost an unspecified amount of money.

The Super Falcons forward said the players confronted hotel staff over the missing cash but were left dissatisfied with the response.

“We started talking to them, and they don’t have answers. They also started being disrespectful,” she wrote.

She further claimed that after reporting the incident, front desk staff showed little concern over the allegations.

Okoronkwo urged teammates and supporters to leave negative reviews about the hotel and warned prospective guests against staying there, alleging that staff steal from visitors.

The Super Falcons had been camped at a Marriott hotel in Casablanca as part of preparations for the continental tournament before their scheduled departure to Rabat, where they will play their Group C matches.

The arrival of Deborah Abiodun and Gift Monday recently completed coach Justine Madugu’s 25-player squad as the defending champions intensified preparations for the competition.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the hotel management nor the Nigeria Football Federation had issued an official response to the allegations.
