NIGERIA: Obi Faults FG’s ₦142bn Bus Terminal Project, Calls It Misplaced Priority
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has criticised the Federal Government’s approval of ₦142 billion for the construction of bus terminals across the six geopolitical zones.
He described the decision as another evidence of misplaced priority.
Obi, in a post on Friday, argued that the allocation reflects a lack of competence, focus, and leadership.
He noted that in the 2024 budget, the combined allocation for all teaching hospitals in federal universities and psychiatric centres nationwide was less than ₦100 billion.
He said it was disturbing that while health remains one of the most critical and underfunded sectors, the government chose to prioritise bus terminals.
Obi cited a World Health Organisation report which revealed that more than 20 million Nigerians live with mental health challenges.
He described the move as a tragic irony of governance and reiterated his call for a new Nigeria, stating, “A New Niger
ia is Possible.”
