National Bank of Malawi (NBM) has set a target of achieving K350 billion in profit after tax in 2026 following a record financial performance that saw its earnings grow by 95 percent last year.
The bank posted a profit after tax of K197.97 billion for the year ended December 31, 2025, up from K101.97 billion recorded in 2024, underscoring its strong growth trajectory despite Malawi’s challenging economic environment.
Speaking during the bank’s 2026 Stakeholder Engagement meeting, NBM Chief Executive Officer, Harold Jiya, said the institution remains focused on sustaining growth through strategic investments and innovation.
“We remain committed to delivering value to our customers and shareholders while driving growth through digital transformation and expansion initiatives,” said Jiya.
According to the bank, the strong performance was driven by the successful implementation of its growth strategy and continued investment in customer-focused products and digital services. Profit after tax has increased by 63 percent over the past four years under the bank’s current five-year strategic plan.
NBM also made significant contributions to the national economy, paying K141.16 billion in taxes to the government, investing K2.9 billion in corporate social responsibility programmes, and collecting nearly K30 billion on behalf of the Malawi Revenue Authority during 2025.
The bank’s shareholders are set to receive a dividend of K197.92 per share, up from K126.35 per share in 2024. Meanwhile, NBM’s share price rose by 248 percent during the year to K11,995.63 per share.
Looking ahead, Jiya said NBM plans to deepen its regional presence and accelerate digital transformation through the introduction of a new mobile payment platform and an upgraded internet banking system as it pursues its K350 billio
