National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has warned governors that they risk criminal sanctions if they continue skipping appearances before parliamentary committees.
Speaking during a youth empowerment programme in Mabera, Kuria West, Migori County, the National Assembly Speaker said Parliament will not relent in its oversight role.
“As Parliament, we will not compromise on oversight. You cannot take billions of taxpayers’ money and refuse to appear before Parliament to account,” he said.
Wetang’ula said failure by county chiefs to respond to Auditor-General reports sets a dangerous precedent that cannot be tolerated in a de
mocracy.
