Principal Secretary (PS) in the State Department for TVETs Dr. Esther Muoria has directed Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions to stop using graduation gowns and adopt attire aligned to trainees’ respective disciplines.
Speaking during the graduation ceremony of Nyeri National Polytechnic, the TVET Principal Secretary said the move will better reflect the practical skills acquired by graduates.
“Going forward, we are not going to be graduating our graduates in gowns. Gowns are academic and we are technical,” she said.
Muoria noted that mechanics will graduate in overalls, chefs in chef uniforms, and other trainees in work attire relevant to their professions.
She also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding the sector, announcing plans to recruit 1,000 trainers this year and modernise training institutions n
ationwide.
