KENYA: ODM Moves to Oust Sifuna as SG Amid Escalating Party Rift
By Moses Punyuah
ODM’s National Executive Committee has formally resolved to remove Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as Secretary-General, deepening a bitter internal dispute that has exposed divisions within the party’s top leadership.
The move comes months after Sifuna openly differed with sections of ODM leaders over the party’s cooperation with President William Ruto’s administration.
“I was elected by party members and I will continue defending the interests and values of ODM,” Sifuna has previously maintained amid calls for his removal.
ODM says it is addressing procedural concerns raised by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal, but the decision is expected to trigger fresh political tensions within Raila Odinga’s party.
