KENYA: Mwimbi and Muthambi Traditions Take Center Stage at Maara Cultural Finale
By Moses Punyuah, Nairobi
The modern world faded into the background at the Mugona YMCA Grounds as the Maara Constituency Cultural Festival reached its vibrant climax. Stripped of contemporary distractions, the grand finale became a living canvas of the rich, shared heritage defining the Mwimbi and Muthambi communities.
The festival grounds breathed history. The steady thrum of traditional drums vibrated through the air while elders, adorned in ceremonial regalia, guided younger generations through centuries-old folk songs and dances. Led by Cultural Ambassador Kimathi Ntimiiru, the event focused entirely on preservation, offering local youth a rare, immersive opportunity to connect with their ancestral identity, values, and customs.
As the dust settles, the cultural flame remains lit. The community now turns its anticipation toward the landmark Ura Gate Cultural Festival, eager to keep the spirit of storytelling and indigenous preservation thriving across Tharaka Nithi County.
